Update from the Bible Society in Ukraine

Bible Society teams in Ukraine and across Europe are providing Bibles and other Scripture-based resources to people who desperately need them, alongside humanitarian aid and pastoral care. Anatoliy, based in Ukraine, says: β€˜We are sharing living bread and physical bread.’

Your help is needed today. Please pray, give, and share their stories. Partner with us in bringing the light of Jesus into places darkened by war.

The deputy leader of Bible mission in Ukraine, Anatoliy Raychynets, looks back on a month of fighting and explains how he and his team struggle on, even in the awful darkness. He wants you to keep praying for Ukraine because he’s seeing your prayers answered.

The main Bible Society contact in Ukraine, Rostyslav, describes the difference your prayers and donations are making. He asks you to continue to pray for everyone involved – Ukrainians, Russians, politicians, soldiers.

The Lord’s Prayer

Contemporary

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Amen.

Traditional

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen.

Prayers for Ukraine

A Prayer for Ukraine by the Bible Society

God of mercy, God of peace, we join with Christians around the world
to pray for the people of Ukraine.
For those under attack and fearing for their lives, for safety.
For the refugees leaving the country, that they will find a welcome.
For those fighting for their country, that they will not give in to hatred.
For leaders seeking what’s best for their nation,
that you will give them wisdom.
We pray for the leaders of Russia, that you will open their
and show them the way of peace.
And we pray for all those who in dark places
continue to shine the light of Christ, and who bear witness
to his enduring love for all people everywhere. Amen.

In sorrow and pain, we hold before you the situation unfolding in Ukraine.

For those caught in the conflict;

For those watching on in horror;

For those reliving the trauma of their past;

Trusting in your goodness and love, Lord God, we cry out to you.

For those who flee, leaving homes and lives

We cry out to you, O Lord.

For those who are gripped with terror and fear

We cry out to you, O Lord.

For cities surrounded and under fire

We cry out to you, O Lord.

For those who shelter in bathrooms and basements

We cry out to you, O Lord.

For those who fear they must take up arms

We cry out to you, O Lord.

For civilians turned soldiers who fight for their homes

We cry out to you, O Lord.

For those under orders they don’t understand

We cry out to you, O Lord.

For those who are wounded and killed in conflict

We cry out to you, O Lord.

With those who mourn and those who weep

We cry out to you, O Lord.

Silence is kept.

We pray with the words of Ukrainian songwriter Andriy Hryfel

I long for you as a baby longs for mother,

As the dry land longs for the rain, I long for You.

I look at you when I am exhausted in the struggle,

I pray to You, because I believe my victory is in You,

I stand on the Word, this world will not overcome Your love

God of peace and justice,

we pray your transforming love would be poured out on our troubled world.

In hope and expectation we pray your peace would come.

Through the work of negotiators, diplomats and politicians

We pray your peace would come.

Through protests and petitions

We pray your peace would come.

Through pressure and sanctions

We pray your peace would come.

In city streets where violence rages

We pray your peace would come.

In shattered homes and shelled suburbs

We pray your peace would come.

In the hearts of those who wage war

We pray your peace would come.

Where greed and pride drive our actions

We pray your peace would come.

Where selfish ambition overrules love and compassion

We pray your peace would come.
