St Mary’s and St Luke’s News for Sunday 02 October 2022 – Harvest Sunday

The Weekly Sheet has this week’s Readings and News on it

Joan Powell

It is with great sadness that I inform you of the death of Joan Powell. Joan has been a long-standing member of our congregation and a dear friend to us all – she will be greatly missed. Please keep her family in your prayers at this time. Joan’s funeral will be Friday 21 October at 1:45pm at St Mary’s.

We are celebrating Harvest this Sunday 2nd October – please join us!

We will be celebrating Harvest at both of our churches this Sunday and we will be joining together for a Harvest Bring and Share Lunch at 12 noon in the Church Hall.
If you can help to set up the Church Hall for our Harvest Lunch, please come to the Church Hall at 6pm on Saturday 1 October.
As we give thanks to God for his goodness to us we remember those who are struggling at this time.
Practically, we will be supporting our local Food Banks with the gifts that people bring to Harvest this year. We are asking for non-perishable Harvest gifts this year. If you are shopping this week please put a few of the items below into your trolley and bring them to our Harvest Service next week to support the great work the local Food Banks do in our area.
In prayer, we will remember all people who at this time the Harvest has failed, where famine is a reality or will be soon. We will remember in prayer all refugees, those who have been displaced from the their homes and countries, and for those who continue to live in areas of war, conflict and persecution.

Preparing St Mary’s Church for Harvest Sunday: please come along at 10am on Saturday 01 October to St Mary’s to help prepare the church, jobs for all ages and abilities.

St Mary’s Heating

Unfortunately, the heating boiler at St Mary’s has broken, perhaps for the last time, as it’s nearly 50 years old and parts are hard to come by, if not impossible. We will hopefully have temporary heating in place for Sunday and it may take a while to fix or replace the heating. The Church of England’s plan is to be net zero carbon by 2030 and we are required to explore alternatives to fossil fuels looking at renewable, green energy, sources.
