VE Day Celebrations

I hope you managed to celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE Day on Friday, and indeed this weekend!
I was called down to St Mary’s as the Boiler House Door had been forced open, no damage done apart from the lock, and on the way back I saw people celebrating in their gardens and drives, it was lovely to see. It brought a welcome break from the current situation we find ourselves in.
To celebrate, we moved our garden furniture to the front of the house and with local neighbours, all in our own drives of course, joined in the celebrations! Many thanks to Jonathan White for the photo.

I’d love to see your photos, perhaps for inclusion in the June Magazine, please send them to: editor@magazine.stmaryswistaston.blog

The Midweek
Get Together Wednesdays at 7.30pm

Each week Revd Mike invites you to join with him on Zoom for a get-together.
Each week there will be something different including a Bible Book Club, a Prayer Meeting, a topical chat or a discussion. Details will be posted on our Facebook Page on the Monday of each week. All you need to do is follow the link that will be in the post to register.

This week 13 May:

Prayer & Worship Service

Daily Hope

THE  Archbishop of Canterbury  has launched  a free telephone line , Daily Hope, to give more people access to worship, prayer, and reflections while churches are closed.

Daily Hope has been available since Sunday and runs for 24 hours a day. It provides Church of England prayers, hymns, and reflections for those who dial in. The number is 0800 8048044.

Changes in the Deanery

There are to be some changes to the clergy in the Deanery in the coming months.

Rev Dr Oliver Chimeze IGWE (photo above) has been announced as the next Priest in Charge of St Andrew, St Peter and All Saints Crewe. This is subject to all legal formalities being fulfilled.

Rev Canon Helen Chantry vicar of Audlem, Doddington & Wybunbury & Rural Dean is moving to the parish of Hucknall, Nottingham. She finishes at the end of June.

Rev Philip Goggin, vicar of St Peter’s Leighton-cum-Minshull Vernon and St. Leonard’s Church, Warmingham, will be retiring on 19 July.

Funerals this past week

Funerals still to take place during May
Pamela Gilbert

Also, we heard from Joyce Woodward that our former organist, Frank Woodward, passed away earlier this week. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this sad time.

Please keep their families in your prayers

Church Staff & Office

We have had to take the decision to furlough the paid church staff, that is Polly, Teresa & Derek, for the foreseeable future which means under the new government scheme as a church we can claim 80% of their wages back, we will continue to pay them 100% whilst we can. Many thanks to them and for all the help they have given to the church. This, of course, means the office is closed until further notice but the answerphone and emails are being checked daily

Covid-19 and it’s effects of church life: As well as worship being suspended, we have had to cancel all events and close the Church Hall. We pray for all those who are in isolation and will be hugely affected by this.
