Ribbon of Poppies at St Mary’s Wistaston

We thought we’d share these photos of the incredible Ribbon of Poppies which the Scouts have installed at St Mary’s. Many thanks to Tom Austin for the photos.

Tom, from the Scouts, wrote on their JustGiving page…
We first created our ribbon of poppies display in 2019, with it on display outside our scout centre. In 2020 we relocated it to the Wistaston Memorial Hall, in the centre of the village.

For 2021 we decided to take it a step further and produce an even bigger display to go up at St. Mary’s Church, Wistaston. The display, made from over 5,000 plastic bottle ends, was first started back in January 2021 as we asked people to collect their bottle ends for us. Each week the bottles were emptied from the collection bin and spray painted red to resemble the poppy. Then, in October the work started to assemble the display by attaching the bottle ends to chicken wire, with buttons used to reassemble the centre of the poppy.

A big thank you to all of our Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Young Leaders, Leaders and parents who helped us to create the wonderful display, it simply wouldn’t have been possible without you!
