St Mary’s and St Luke’s News & Information for 20 August 2023 – Trinity 11

The Weekly Sheet has this week’s Readings and News on it

After church refreshments at St Mary’s

There will not be any after church refreshments at St Mary’s during August.

However, there will be a Picnic at the Rectory (104 Church Lane) on Sunday 20 August straight after St Mary’s Service.  Sarah & Mike invite you to join them (weather permitting!) in their garden for a picnic. Please bring your own food, drinks, picnic glasses, a camping chair or rug, all the things you would normally take on a picnic, and we’ll supply the tea & coffee. In the event of rain, which we know is unlikely during the British summer, it will be in the Church Hall.

George Wardy

We still don’t have any funeral details for George Wardy, but we will keep you informed.

Chalice at Communion Survey

Thanks to those who completed the Holy Communion survey over the last two Sundays. From 66 responses: 48% will continue with Priest Intinction, 38% will take the chalice, 8% are undecided and 6% will take just the wafer.

Just a reminder that from September the Chalice will be offered for those who wish to receive it and Priest Intinction (the current practice) will continue to be offered.

If you have any queries or questions, please speak to Revd Mike.

St Paul’s Pantry News

Thank you to everyone that has donated food and/or financial gifts. We simply would not be able to continue to meet the need without this support. In June and July 2023 2.7 tonnes of food was donated/445 people received crisis food. Unfortunately, over the last 7 months (Jan to July 2023), donations have decreased by 60%. The number of people needing crisis food has increased by approximately 25% since 2022. It is therefore no surprise that we are having to purchase significant volumes of food items we are short of on a weekly basis. We don’t receive grant funding for the foodbank, it is resourced through monetary donations and donations of food. Please keep spreading the word about our need and do direct people to our website about ways people can support, every item and every penny helps: https://www.stpaulscentre.org.uk/donate

An Appeal for men’s clothes and shoes

Hope Church, Crewe are appealing for men’s clothes and shoes for their aid to Asylum Seekers that have been placed in Crewe. Please if you have any clothes and shoes you can donate, please bring to our Church and Catherine Gallagher will arrange to take them to Hope Church.

The Bible Study group

The Tuesday Bible study group and Prayer groups will now take a break and will meet again in September, dates to be advised. Thank you, Jenny V.
