St Mary’s and St Luke’s News & Information for 06 August 2023 – Trinity 9

The Weekly Sheet has this week’s Readings and News on it

George Wardy

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the recent death of George Wardy. We don’t have any further details of his funeral at the moment, but we will keep you informed.

A return to offering the Chalice at Communion

At the last PCC it was decided that we would return to offering the Chalice at Communion from September. It was also acknowledged that some people may prefer to keep to ‘Priest intinction’, our current practice. Both will be available from September. Please note that personal intinction, dipping of the wafer, will not be allowed for hygiene reasons, only by the minister.

To help Revd Mike gauge how best to offer this, if you haven’t done so already, he would be grateful if you would complete the anonymous survey available in both churches or complete it online here: https://forms.gle/xogaFyekuDTN6HEf7

If you have any queries or questions, please speak to Revd Mike.

Ladies Afternoon Group

The LAG trip to RHS Bridgewater was an enjoyable day out. We only had one tremendous shower and managed to shelter. The gardens were superb. The Western walled gardens were a delight with an abundance of plants, trees and bushes in an array of colours and scents. The wild flowers were spectacular and the insects plentiful. The Ellesmere Lake and surrounding rocky waterfalls stunning. Many enjoyed the eateries which were available. Thank you all for making this day memorable. Looking forward to meeting in September. We wish Alice, and Tess a speedy recovery. Frances, Ann and Pam.

An Appeal for men’s clothes and shoes

Hope Church, Crewe are appealing for men’s clothes and shoes for their aid to Asylum Seekers that have been placed in Crewe. Please if you have any clothes and shoes you can donate, please bring to our Church and Catherine Gallagher will arrange to take them to Hope Church.

After church refreshments at St Mary’s

There will not be any after church refreshments at St Mary’s during August.

However, there will be a Picnic at the Rectory (104 Church Lane) on Sunday 20 August straight after St Mary’s Service.  Sarah & Mike invite you to join them (weather permitting!) in their garden for a picnic. Please bring your own food, drinks, picnic glasses, a camping chair or rug, all the things you would normally take on a picnic, and we’ll supply the tea & coffee. In the event of rain, which we know is unlikely during the British summer, it will be in the Church Hall.

The Bible Study group

The Tuesday Bible study group and Prayer groups will now take a break and will meet again in September, dates to be advised. Thank you, Jenny V.
